January is all about a fresh start, so we're focusing on whiter teeth, smooth skin and the colours you wont be able to live without, brought to you by Triona McCarthy, directly from her bathroom!
Since having baby number two a month ago now, you'd think I'd hardly have time to look in the mirror, wouldn't you? But I've become fixated with my teeth, which are so yellow, I can't believe they're not butter! Seriously. They do say you lose a tooth for every baby you have, so I need to step up my dental routine to get my grill looking glorious again.
Will has been using the Oral-B Pro 6000 Smart Series electric toothbrush, €299.99, from Boots, for the last few months, and now his teeth are like the Eighth Wonder of the World, they're so white. This high-tech toothbrush - I have it in my hand in my photo, above - also tracks your every dental move and logs it to your smartphone via the Oral-B app. From timing to pressure, this log can then be shared with your dentist for a more detailed consultation.
I love the look of the fancy new Forero Issa Silicone Toothbrush, €199, from Harvey Nichols; it's made entirely from silicone. The non-abrasive, non-porous bristles cover more surface area and remove plaque more effectively.
Hate flossing? The adjustable eight-speed pulsations let the brushes move in two directions, allowing an efficient clean between the teeth - the pulsing also stimulates blood flow to give you healthier gums.
Although Will, my tooth idol, swears by his Waterpik Ultra Cordless Water Jet Flosser WP450, €59.99, from Boots. This little beauty gets in between your teeth and below the gumline. Simply add water - or a little mouthwash, if you fancy - to the tank and use twice daily.
Finally, according to the makers of iWhite Instant Whitening Toothpaste, €7.49, it targets stains on, and the surface of the tooth with an active whitening formulation, while also preventing any new tooth staining, and it fights plaque, tartar, and tooth decay.
Until I became a mum, I never really knew what the hell baby powder was for! Now, I use it on Maxi, Mini and me.
Grown-ups can use it as a dry-shampoo substitute, as an emergency translucent powder - when it's applied lightly with a powder brush - and it's great for fattening up lashes between coats of mascara.
Meanwhile, sprinkling it in your shoes works if you have sweaty feet like I do - oooh!
I always say it's best to be with someone who ruins your lipstick, not your mascara! Except Bourjois is making it veeeery hard to wreck that pout, with their Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick, below, €11. It's guaranteed to make lips look luscious for longer, and leave no trace of residue on your man or your glass of wine!
Up until a few weeks ago, I was a Velvet Virgin, but now I'm very glad that I took the plunge. Enriched with evanescent oils, the formula provides a soft, second-skin feel, without drying or fading on the lips. Even after a few late-night smooches, as it's virtually smudge-proof.
It feels really light on my lips, while the velvety, super-matte effect and the range of bold, vivid colours brightens up a dull winter outfit. I'm McLovin the Hot Pepper shade, as it even makes my teeth appear a little whiter, while Nude-Ist, below, is a great all-rounder.
Top tip: apply using your fingertips for a softer look, or use the applicator and build up the coverage for a statement pout!
So, what are you waiting for? Test it yourself; pucker up and get your smooch on. I promise you that your lippie will last the night, even if you don't!
Whether it's wrinkles, acne or sun damage, we all have something we feel we can improve to make us look a little more like the porcelain-skinned Liv Tyler, and Therapie Clinics, see therapaieclinic.com, have a wide range of skincare treatments to suit all skin types.
Their new Jet Peel 3V treatment, from €150, uses no chemicals and claims to boast a 77pc reduction in the appearance of lines, while being virtually painless, so scaredy cats like me have no excuse!
Using nothing but water and oxygen, it exfoliates, tones, hydrates and drastically improves the circulation. Kind of like a power wash for your face, it peels off dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth as silk.
'Age gets better with wine' is a motto of my friend Maureen. Beauty-wise, winey-red is very much the colour of the season.
Every year, the Pantone Colour Institute nominates a Colour of the Year, forecasting which specific shade designers and consumers will all supposedly be using and buying for the next year. The 2015 Colour of the Year is Marsala, a 'robust and earthy wine-red'. This universally flattering colour reminds me of shades I wore on my lips and eyes when I was going through my grunge period as a teenager in the 90s, and drinking lots of red wine, listening to Nirvana with Maureen, while suffering from wineorexia - you know: no matter how full your wine glass is, you think it's not full enough!
Anyhoo, Burberry's Sheer Eyeshadow in Mulberry No 24, €26 is very Marsala-ish. It really makes my blue eyes pop when I wear it, although it suits all eye colours. This innovative formula uses silicones for a smooth and flawless application, and contains micronised satin-smooth pigments to ensure long-lasting colour.
I'm a multi-tasking mum-of-two under two, so my skincare products need to work as hard as I do! Right now, I'm loving Aveda's Shampure Composition, €30, as I can use this oil on my body, hair and nails, as well as in the bath and shower.
Based on Aveda's original elixir of 25 pure flower and plant essences, this oil not only nourishes the skin, it helps calm the mind.
Top tip: before showering, I use this oil on my scalp and the ends of my hair for a deep-conditioning sesh. After showering, I mix a drop in with my normal body cream before applying it to my skin.
