Bairbre Power... Out and about
Our resident diarist calls into the best parties and events around the country
Andrew Drysdale, the newly appointed general manager of the g Hotel in Galway found himself in an in-depth hats conversation at the hotel after the races on Thursday. Well, he was in a real 'winners' sandwich, photographed with that afternoon's winner at Ballybrit Charlene Byers from Newry, and the 2016 winner of the g Hotel's Best Dressed, Lisa McGowan from Tullamore.
And no better man to hold his own. I joked with him that he must have known subconsciously that he was going to go for a pink winner as he was wearing a pink tie and pocket square - Andrew had the casting vote if there was a tie among judges Chanelle, Lady McCoy, Mandy Maher of Catwalk Model Agency and Yours Truly.
But there wasn't and we all loved the sheer elegance of Charlene's look, and her composure. After a thrilling day of style, it was back to the hotel where Lisa pulled on her 'Lisa's Lust List' blogger's glamour and wore a hat by local milliner, Edel Ramberg, before proceeding to judge the annual g Best Hat and Most Stylish Man.
Over at the Hotel Meyrick, (above) Rod Gallagher from Tipperary won Most Stylish Gent, while Suzanne Burke from Athlone won the coveted Most Stylish Lady competition. They were joined in photos by guest judge Anna Geary and Cian O'Broin, GM of Hotel Meyrick.
In Dublin, the Moroccan Ambassador to Ireland, H.E. Lahcen Mahraoui, hosted a party at the National Yacht Club to mark the 19th anniversary of the enthronement of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI. The ambassador hosted guests from the diplomatic corps and was photographed (above) with H.E. Dr Yue Xiaoyong, the Chinese Ambassador and former Tánaiste, Frances Fitzgerald.
Once we saw the diamond and pearl pendant presented by the very charming Phyllis McNamara of Cobwebs for the winner of the Best Dressed on Thursday, we were all down to her store beside the Claddagh for a good look at her diamonds and vintage pieces. Oh wowser, what a gem of a store. I'll be back!
Jennifer Rock, aka The Skin Nerd, took home top prize from The Pitch, a competition for female entrepreneurs. Jennifer emerged the overall winner from 115 entries scooping Samsung technology and promotion worth €100,000 for her business. Seven finalists were invited to put their best business case forward to an expert panel of judges including beauty mogul Jo Malone, Newstalk presenter and founder of Insomnia Coffee Company Bobby Kerr, Suzanne Homewood (Enterprise Sales Director, Samsung UK & Ireland), Linda Nolan (Head of Marketing Samsung Ireland) and Clodagh Edwards (CEO Image Publications). 3. Jo Malone - whose fragrances half the world seems to wear (mine favourite is still grapefriut) - was photographed with Jennifer (centre) and fellow finalist Annelie McCaffrey of Your Smile Direct.
