These lucky punters have won the lotto more than once

Winning the lotto once is something most of us dream about. It’s what we consider a once-in-a-lifetime event but for some incredibly lucky people it has happened twice- or even three times.

Perhaps there was something in the water, as they say, but 2017 really did prove to be a lucky year for many. Throughout the year there were lottery winners around the globe who managed the incredible feat of winning the lottery more than once.

In February, one man’s mistake ended up earning him millions. From Point Cook near Melbourne, the man, in his thirties, played his lucky numbers on the weekend draw. He checked one ticket and found he had won a staggering $1.3 million AUD. After the initial shock subsided, he checked his remaining tickets and found to his disbelief that he had unintentionally played the same game, twice, and won again. His total winnings came to $2.6 million AUD, thanks to his very lucky error.

In the same month, a man from South Carolina got lucky not once, but twice in the same day. The South Carolina Education Lottery revealed the man had played the same daily drawing game for more than ten years. After purchasing a ticket with his five lucky numbers he then purchased a second, using the same numbers, but with a multiplier. All five of his numbers were matched in the draw and he came away with a $100,000 jackpot from his first ticket and $200,000 for his second.

One Munster man really does appear to have the luck of the Irish, having won the lottery an incredible three times in fourteen years. In June he collected his third lottery winnings from Lotto headquarters in Dublin, picking up a windfall of nearly €20,000- an impressive sum, but one that is somewhat eclipsed by his previous winnings of €300,000 and €500,000 respectively! He first won the lottery in 2004 with a Lotto Plus 1 and got lucky a second time in 2006 while playing as part of a syndicate.

While he could well be Ireland’s luckiest man, he is happy to keep a low profile and prefers to remain anonymous.  Speaking about winning big three times he said, “I paid for my house and I was able to help out family which was great. I also got to do lots of travel, something I hadn’t had an opportunity to do up to then. I have had a good time.”

In July, a teenager from California managed to win $655,555 from two scratch cards in one week. 19-year-old Rosa Dominguez couldn’t believe it when one of her $5 scratch cards won her $555,555. Clearly on a winning streak, the teenager than purchased another $5 scratch card a few days later and found she had won $100,000 USD. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the first item on this teenager’s shopping list was reportedly a brand new car.

In December, a North Carolina woman made headlines for her unbelievable lottery story. Kimberly Morris purchased a Diamond Dazzler ticket from her supermarket and scooped a $10,000 prize. The delighted mother of four headed to the North Carolina Education Lottery to claim her prize.

"I was shocked," she told them. "It felt really great to win, but I really have always dreamed I would win $1 million!". And that’s exactly what she did next. Feeling lucky, she picked up a second Diamond Dazzler ticket on her way home for $20, played the scratch card and found she had won the $1 million prize.
