We speak to homeowner Anthony Crudden.

Anthony Crudden has lived in Cabra his whole life. He spent his childhood in a terraced house just around the corner. He now lives in a semi-detatched house with his wife Bern and 9-year-old son, Dylan.

Anthony bought the house in 1994 but the family were always bothered by how cold the house was, especially in the front hall. The terrace was built in 1933 and had no insulation.

After getting an extension with a conservatory built on the back just last year, Anthony looked about possibly getting the house insulated. He was advised to get in contact with SEAI registered contractor Noel Whelan of Absolute Acrylics, who let him know about external insulation and the grants available from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).

Noel started on Anthony’s house in January and the work was completed within just three weeks.

We spoke to Anthony about getting the work done and the improvement the external insulation has made to his home:

Sick of living in a cold house? SEAI offer Home Energy Grants to homeowners to recoup money on work they get done on their house to make it more comfortable and energy efficient.

While you might forget about heating your home now it is coming into the summer months, there has never been a better time to get the work done to your house. Upgrading your house now means that come winter, your home will be so cosy and warm.

All of the work is carried out by registered contractors so you can expect a high quality finish with minimal disruption to your normal daily life. If you aren’t sure what improvements need to be made to your home, talk to a local BER assessor.

You can get a Home Energy Grant to insulate your home (external wall, internal dry lining and attic insulation), upgrade your boiler and heating controls to improve how energy is used in your home. You can also get the grant for the installation of solar panels.

The Home Energy Grants cover up to 30% of a typical upgrade such as home insulation, heating systems and solar panels.

Why not join the 350,000 households around Ireland who have already got grants for home energy improvements?
