Flooring interior trends for 2017
How to do ‘luxe’ for less.
How do you do ‘luxury’ for less?
When it comes to our homes, don’t we all want and deserve a little luxury? If you want to achieve the latest trends in top quality flooring from wool carpets to bespoke statement rugs, this does not necessarily have to mean high prices.
Here are 5 ways to bring in that high-end quality feel to your interiors with tasteful, terrific carpets, rugs and flooring tailored exactly for your home - all with luxury as the common theme:
1. Go for gorgeous greys
Grey tones continue to dominate in 2017 and are a great way to rejuvenate your home. While you may have previously thought that a Liberty print would be outside your price range, this stunning Liberty Quirky B Capello Shell Mist carpet brings in a subtle pattern that can then work as a base for a palette of greys. You can then introduce colour elsewhere in the room through your soft furnishings and paintings. This look works really well whether your interiors are classic or contemporary or either as a carpet or a rug.
2. Get the lowdown on carpet pile!
The beautiful Ulster Grange Wilton Priory is considered the premier type of woven carpet and in addition to looking fantastic is really dense and durable. If your flooring is high-traffic this is a good way to do ‘luxe’ for less. The plain, unpatterned approach allows the drama to then dominate in the wall coverings, to contrast with the plain floor base. If you are looking for long-lasting luxury, you will really need to get the lowdown on carpet pile. Whether it’s natural or man-made the pile and the yarn are the defining feature of any carpet. To ensure that your new look is going to suit your lifestyle, you should research the right type for your needs whether you’re regularly entertaining or have a household of children and pets.
Brendan Cumiskey, MD of TC Matthews Carpets points out that to ensure enduring luxury you have got to first do your homework: “Most people will buy something because they like it. They will have very little initial concern as to how it will perform. Never mind colour or look, it is really important to firstly look at the product itself, its wearability and the lifespan of the product. Not enough people focus on that and they really should. The difference five or six euros a yard can mean when it comes to carpet is phenomenal and can definitely save you money in the long-term.”
3. Go dotty for drama!
The stairs is a great way to introduce a bit of drama, especially if it can be viewed from the front door. Flooring interiors trends in 2017 have seen bolder patterns coming through very strongly. Pattern can be great for family homes, especially when there are young children, as they can hide spills and the wear and tear that comes with high footfall.
From Fair Isle, to Shuttle, Chainmail, Daisy, Zebo and Geometric to this cheerful statement spotty pattern, going for a bit of drama in flooring design is a great luxury look to brighten up any home!
4. “It’s very chic” – add a bespoke rug for luxury
Many people think that having a bespoke rug made for them is way outside their budget and really only seen on the glossy pages of interiors magazines. However, this strong 2017 trend can be achieved for a very reasonable budget. A brilliant way to carry through an overall look to add detail is having a rug made from the same carpet choice.
“We provide a great rug-making service.”, says Brendan Cumiskey. “So for example, whatever carpet you select, you can get a rug of the same type to match. We put a nice two inch cotton border around the entire area which really turns it in to something special, so for example, you could have a living room with a particular carpet and then you could complement this with a rug made from the same carpet underneath your dining table. It can really work very well and is very chic. We can make it to virtually any size or shape”.
5. Vary your textures room by room
Another theme coming through for 2017 is adding the element of varied textures, so that rather than having one type of carpet for every room, you can choose a similar colour palette but vary the type of textures used from room to room. This gives a really great feel of continuity but the additional element of variety in texture points to the attention to detail that comes with luxury.
“If you want to continue a theme through your house, you can vary the textures around each room from gorgeous quality velvets, to wool twist ranges which have a slightly more textured surface, to the more soft and silky carpets that can work well in bedrooms. The mix of products will all blend in with one another as you walk in to each room. It’s a great solution and shouts luxury”, says Brendan Cumiskey.
