Competition: Win an amazing trip to New York for the unsung hero in your community

If you can think of anyone who isn’t getting the credit they deserve, here is a fantastic way for you to reward them.

Particularly over the past two years, people from all walks of life have been putting in the hard yards to keep Irish communities moving along. From GAA players delivering groceries to elderly neighbours to people volunteering at a local hostel after work, they don’t always get the credit they deserve.

There is no time like the present to change that however, and what better way to reward them than with a trip to the Big Apple? Regardless of whether it’s their first trip to New York or their tenth, it’s such an incredible city that every visit is going to make you leave wanting to come back for more.

Thanks to Proclamation Irish Whiskey, all you have to do is put forward your unsung hero by nominating them here.

An award-winning blend of the finest grain whiskeys from across Ireland and matured in American oak bourbon casks, Proclamation Whiskey is a deliciously smooth handcrafted spirit. Made only in small batches and blended with a touch of sherry-finished malt to give it a more rounded, toasted cereal finish, its unique name comes from the historic proclamation read outside the GPO in Easter 1916.

Three of the most important people involved in creating that iconic document were its printers. Unsung heroes of their time, Christopher Joseph Brady, Michael Molloy and William O’Brien played a deeply significant role which was the inspiration behind Proclamation Whiskey’s label design.

Things to do in New York City

Whoever you are going to nominate for this incredible prize is probably too busy being the hero that they are to come up with an itinerary. Coming up with a few ideas of what there is to do in New York certainly wouldn’t do any harm, and you won’t be short of ideas!

  • Edge NYC: The tallest outdoor deck in the Western Hemisphere, the views up here are simply out of this world with a glass floor area for anyone with nerves of steel.
  • High Line: It used to be a train line, but now it’s a 2km long park! A perfect place to unwind among the skyscrapers, this NYC gem is not to be missed, particularly at sunset.
  • Ellis Island: More than 3.5 million Irish immigrants were brought through Ellis Island over the course of 62 years, and today it stands as a powerful symbol of the fascinating blend of cultures that created modern day New York City.
  • Statue of Liberty: Another iconic symbol of New York's incredible history is Lady Liberty, which was for a long time the first thing that people immigrating into the United States could see as they approached the harbour.
  • Yankee Stadium: A baseball game is something everyone should try to experience, and where better to do it than the home of the iconic New York Yankees?
  • Brooklyn Heights: Brooklyn Heights promenade offers incredible views of Manhattan, and is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a stop off in a local restaurant.
  • Coney Island: Not many places like this exist anymore, but Coney Island is like taking a trip into a bygone era of seaside carnivals and boardwalks.
