A new way to cruise into 2017

Looking for inspiration for your 2017 holidays?

How do you combine the relaxation, serenity and feel-good factor of travelling by water, but also mix it with the contrast of sightseeing in interesting cities?

River Cruises are fast emerging for 2017 as one of the more enticing holiday ideas worth exploring. These holidays are great value and while river cruising may be less well-known, it is now on the radar for savvy travellers.

Cruising along the River Danube and Rhine in Germany offers the chance to visit some of Europe’s most amazing and vibrant cities. Approaching each breath-taking stop-off from the water, a river cruise holiday will give you a new and different perspective to the cities on its route.

If you’re thinking of sampling what river cruising has to offer, take a look at some of the fantastic tours on offer from Ireland:

Go Cruising on the Danube

This 9 night full board River Cruise will take you along the River Danube and is a wonderful way to see the highlights of Europe’s longest waterway.

The first night is spent in a city centre hotel in Budapest with the luxury of a guided city tour and welcome dinner with the group before you set sail on the Danube. You’ll get the chance to see some of the highlights of Budapest including Heroes Square, the Synagogue, the Castle District, Mathias Church, Fisherman’s Bastion and St. Stephan’s Basilica.

Cruising on board the MS Amadeus Brilliant, you will travel right into the heart of some of Europe’s most exciting cities.

There’s Bratislava, the fabulous capital of the young Slovakian Republic with its gorgeous old town and Cathedral, Opera House, City Hall and Fountain. Vienna is always a magnificent highlight, particularly for the iconic St. Stephen’s cathedral and there’s also Emmersdorf, Esztergom and Linz.

To enhance the cruise experience and to give a taste of life along the Danube, a guided walking tour of Bratislava, a full day tour of Vienna and a full day excursion to Salzburg and Salzkammergut are also included, led by expert guides. There are also even more optional excursions for the more energetic passengers! After disembarking in the pretty town of Passau, the final night will be spent in a city centre hotel in Munich, where you will enjoy a farewell dinner.

Experience the Rhine and Cologne River Cruise

The Rhine and Cologne River Cruise is definitely one to consider if you’re interested in the outdoors, heritage, history and new experiences.

Travelling on board the 4 Star Superior MS Amadeus Silver III, you’ll experience the elegance of a boutique hotel as you’re transported to some of Europe’s most picturesque towns and cities.

Ports of call include Strasbourg, Speyer, Mannheim (Heidelberg), Ruedesheim, Koblenz, Cochem, Cologne, Hoorn and Amsterdam.

Much smaller than an ocean liner, the difference is that this ship will take you right into the heart of most cities you visit, giving you more time to visit the attractions and enjoy your time ashore.

This holiday includes a half day guided city tour of Basel. There are few other cityscapes where buildings dating back as far as the fifteenth century engage so harmoniously with the contemporary architecture.

There’s also a half day guided excursion to Heidelberg and a city tour of Amsterdam including an inspiring canal trip. During the excursion, you will take a stunning drive through the Dutch Polder landscape to the old fishing village of Volendam to see people dressed in traditional costumes and learn how Dutch cheese is made.

Also included are walking tours of Koblenz and Cologne. These tours are led by expert local guides with a wealth of knowledge, who will take you to some of the top highlights of each destination. There are additional optional excursions available to book at each port of call and there are transfers from Amsterdam port to the airport included with local guide assistance.

All River Cruise holidays include return flights, guided transfers and full board accommodation aboard the vessels. In some cases, pre and post cruise accommodation is also provided in the departing cities.

History and local expert knowledge comes to life as these holidays have the benefit of being escorted and all the planning is done for you.

Celebrate 2017 with new experiences and new destinations. The world is waiting!
