7 Irish hotels perfect for a cosy Christmas catch-up

At Christmas, it’s important to spend time with your nearest and dearest. From family reunions to catching up with old friends, it’s the perfect time of year to reconnect with the people that mean the most.

This winter, we have teamed up with Ireland’s Blue Book to highlight some gorgeous Irish hotels that are perfect for a cosy catch-up. With everything from twinkling fairy lights to roaring fires, each of these venues is special in its own way but the main thing that they have in common is a festive atmosphere that is sure to put a smile on your face.

So, if you’re planning a Christmas catch-up, add these hotels to the top of your list.

1. Barberstown Castle, Co Kildare

For a festive catch-up with a Downton Abbey feel, try Barberstown Castle in Co Kildare. Just a 40-minute drive from Dublin city centre, this beautiful 13th century castle is a real gem.

Enjoy drinks by the fireside or a night of music in the new Haggard Bar; a 15th century stone building that has been lovingly renovated into a traditional Irish pub. Or, if you would prefer an intimate meal or a private group dinner, their fine dining restaurant serves the best of French and Irish country house dining.

The hotel is also set on 20 acres of gorgeous gardens which are perfect for a winter walk with friends or family stroll.

2. Tankardstown House, Co Meath

Open fires, friendly staff, and excellent food - Tankardstown ticks all the boxes. Located in Co Meath this gorgeous venue includes an 18th century manor house, an orangery, cottage suites and the renowned Brabazon Restaurant. Lead by talented Head Chef, Janos Sarkozi, the dishes at Tankardstown are based on seasonal produce from the walled kitchen gardens and poly tunnels on the estate.

Their festive menu is available from December 4 and features traditional Christmas fare such as turkey and ham, and Christmas pudding, as well as the more exotic sounding pork belly with black pudding gnocchi, and chocolate sponge with Japanese black sesame ice cream.

If you want a more grown-up catch-up, book a festive afternoon tea. Butler House serves afternoon tea from Monday to Sunday. Warm up with a delicious selection of teas and three tiers of delicious treats with miniature sandwiches, pastries, homemade scones and mini desserts. Perfection!
