REPORTS IN England last night suggested that Owen Coyle is on the verge of being sacked as manager of Wigan Athletic.

The former Ireland player was summoned by owner Dave Whelan for crisis talks after Wigan endured their third defeat of the week to Derby yesterday.

Sheffield Wednesday are on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Dave Jones yesterday.

Owls chairman Milan Mandaric opted to part company with Jones 24 hours after the Owls fell to a third successive defeat as they went down 2-0 at Blackpool - a result which left them second from bottom in the Championship table, above Barnsley merely by goal difference.
