Wayne Rooney makes The Sun's 'Team of the Day' without pulling on his boots

Wayne Rooney is a hugely influential figure at Old Trafford but whether his impact watching on from the stands warrants a place on a 'Team of the Day' is highly questionable.

Anders Lindegaard and Juan Mata definitely made the XI on merit after brilliant displays in Manchester United's 4-0 win over Newcastle.

Edin Dzeko and Shinji Kagawa are two men that should feel a little agrieved that Rooney leapfrogged them.

David Moyes is hoping for good news on Wayne Rooney's toe injury as he turns his attention to United's Champions League Quarter-Final second leg with Bayern Munich.

He said: "I have not heard today from the medical team back at Carrington, but we are hoping it will be making progress.

"He's a really important player for us and we will give him every opportunity to be right with his toe."
