Jack O'Shea

What can you say about Jack O'Shea? First, the stats: it may not come as much of a surprise to learn that 'Jacko' won his first Munster championship medal in 1977 but it might be a bit of a surprise to discover he won his 10th and final one in - wait for it - 1991.

Then there were the seven All-Ireland medals between 1978 and 1986, and four Footballer of the Year awards (1980, 81, 84 and 85).

Growing up in Caherciveen, he has spoken about the joy of watching Mick O'Connell and Mick O'Dwyer meeting up to practise skills.

"They were an inspiration to me," he says in the book Gaelic Football's Top 20.

"They came to the local field, which was right opposite my house in Caherciveen and I used to act as their ball boy.

"They trained and practised and I saw the two of them doing all sorts of things with the football."
