Connections of Un De Sceaux took a philosophical view to their star chaser being ruled out of his intended return to action in the Betfair Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown on Saturday.

After tipping up on his chasing debut at Thurles last season, he carried everything else before him, with scintillating displays at Cheltenham and Punchestown.

A recent racecourse gallop after racing at Thurles left connections purring, but he has been quiet at home the last couple of days, forcing trainer Willie Mullins to pull the plug.

Part-owner Colm O'Connell said: "Obviously it's disappointing news, but we've got to do what is right by the horse and Willie felt he just hadn't been himself.

"He'll hopefully go for the Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas now.

"After that, there's the Clarence House at Ascot or the Tied Cottage at Punchestown, I suppose.

"He just hasn't been sparkling these last couple of days, apparently, and for a horse who's only defeat came when he fell w e didn't want to risk it if he wasn't 100 per cent."
