Twitter reacts to RTÉ programme in honour of the late, great Bill O'Herlihy
There was an outpouring of emotion across social media on Monday night as RTÉ aired a programme in tribute to the late and beloved broadcaster Bill O’Herlihy.
O’Herlihy, who died last May at the age of 76, was profiled in the latest edition of the sporadic series, Cloch Le Carn, which was shown on RTÉ One on Monday night.
The broadcast featured interviews with O’Herlihy’s daughters, friend Eamon Dunphy and others who he worked with during over half a century in the media and Public Relations industry.
Of course, the Corkman was best known for presenting RTÉ’s soccer coverage over the years, and the rapport he enjoyed with panellists Dunphy, John Giles and Liam Brady.
His everyman demeanour endeared O’Herlihy to the Irish viewing public in a truly singular manner and, with the first anniversary of his passing approaching, the reaction on Twitter on Monday amply demonstrated just how much he’s missed across the country.
