The fashion stakes

Bairbre Power previews colour and style for Cheltenham

Brave jockeys and horses will be matched by enterprising fashion-conscious ladies at Cheltenham next Wednesday. No matter what the weather brings, Ladies Day at Cheltenham always brings out the style squad and whether it's wellies, leather boots or high heels, you can be certain about one thing: the vista at the Gloucestershire course will be one of great colour and terrific hats.

This year, Irish Independent columnist Rachel Wyse will be one of the judges vetting the Most Stylish Lady Competition.

It takes place in the new Fashion Zone Live!, an exclusive VIP area within the tented village.

Those who wish to throw their hat in the Most Stylish Lady Competition should think early and go to Fashion Zone Live! between 10.30am and 1.30pm on Wednesday. The winner of the £5,000 (€6,000) prize from Joules clothing will be announced around 4pm.

There's always the temptation to introduce lots of spring colour to your Cheltenham racing outfits, but if the mercury drops, reach for stylish tweed and woollies like these from Irish brand Dubarry, who typify the tweedy look that the national hunt regulars love.

Apart from watching the equine excitement on the turf during the four-day national hunt festival, fashion mavens can enjoy four catwalk shows each day at the course, with a host of famous brands, including Amber, Holland & Cooper, Liquorish, Moloh, Really Wild Clothing Company and LK Bennett.

Just imagine all the fabulous wardrobe additions you could buy with your Cheltenham winnings!
