Stoke step up their bid to land Diouf

Stoke look set to make Senegal striker Mame Biram Diouf their second new signing of the summer.

It is understood the former Manchester United player Diouf, 26, whose contract with German outfit Hannover is coming to an end, has been at the Potters' training ground this week for talks with their manager Mark Hughes and chief executive Tony Scholes.

Stoke on Thursday announced their first new recruit of the transfer window in Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley, secured on a three-year deal and officially joining the club on July 1 when his contract with the Black Cats expires.
