Pele issues rallying call to shell-shocked Brazil
Football legend Pele has admitted he was shocked by Germany’s destruction of Brazil in the World Cup semi-final but believes they can recover in time for Russia 2018.
The 73 year-old and three-time World Cup winner could only watch on in horror in Belo Horizonte as Joachim Low’s side put the Selecao to the sword in the most emphatic manner.
Trailing by five goals at half-time, their 7-1 humiliation was the greatest ever margin of victory at this stage of the tournament, but despite the doom and gloom surrounding the country’s football welfare, Pele was bullish on social media about their chances in Russia in four years time.
“I always said that football is a box of surprises. Nobody in this world expected this result,” he posted on his Twitter account post-match.
“We'll get the sixth title in Russia. Congratulations to Germany.”
