Wes Hoolahan gets a call-up to the Ireland squad
WES Hoolahan, who has continued his good Premier League form from last year into this season, has been called up to the provisional Republic of Ireland squad to face Greece in Dublin next month.
The Norwich City playmaker was the big addition to Giovanni Trapattoni’s 26-man panel for the friendly in Lansdowne Road on 14 November.
West Brom striker Shane Long has a hamstring strain, an FAI spokesperson said, while captain Robbie Keane is also left out of the squad.
The squad will be shortened to 23 players before meeting up in Dublin on November 11.
Trapattoni said: “I have decided to choose a provisional 26 man squad for this game due to injury doubts over players. As we have a break from competitive games for a few months, I am using this fixture as an opportunity to try out new players and view their potential.”
Squad in full: Westwood, Forde, Randolph, Coleman, O’Shea, O’Dea, Kelly, McShane, Ward, Duffy, Clark, Delaney, Andrews, McCarthy, Fahey, Meyler, Whelan, Clifford, Keogh, McGeady, McClean, Brady, Hoolahan, Doyle, Cox, Walters.
