Wayne Rooney appeared to be signing for one of the worst teams in America's MLS when he joined DC United earlier this year, but his stunning impact on the team was confirmed as his two goals on Sunday helped to secure their place in the end of season play-offs.

DC were struggling at the wrong end of the Eastern Conference before they signed former Manchester United captain Rooney, but 12 goals from England's all-time record goal scorer has transformed their season.

The latest win came against New York City, as Rooney scored twice in a 3-1 victory to bring his total to 12 in just 19 games and his team will now head into the play-offs as one of the MLS's form teams.

This (below) was the first of Rooney's goals on Sunday, with a second half penalty adding to his total as DC United started their celebrations after their play-off place was secured.

Meanwhile, Rooney's former Manchester United team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic continued his firm form with LA Galaxy, as he scored with a header in their game against Minnesota United.
