Lionel Messi aimed a volley of foul-mouthed abuse at Sergio Ramos as Barcelona slumped to Spanish Super Cup defeat at the hands of Real Madrid.

Barcelona were swept aside by a rampant Real Madrid side with goals from Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema secured Zinedine Zidane's seventh major trophy as manager.

Not content with humiliating Barcelona with a resounding 5-1 aggregate victory, Real captain Sergio Ramos decided to wind up Lionel Messi for good measure.

With time ticking away in the match, Messi attempted to get the ball off Ramos in a bid to take a quick free-kick.

Ramos held the ball out in front of the Argentinian before throwing it up in the air and over the 30-year-old's head.

The usually mild-mannered number ten reacted by calling the Spanish defender a "mother f*****."

Victory in the Super Cup gave Zinedine Zidane his seventh trophy as Real Madrid manager but the Frenchman was quick to compliment his players.

Real Madrid's triumph was made even more impressive by the fact that Zidane chose to rest start players Isco and Gareth Bale, despite losing Cristiano Ronaldo to a five-game suspension on Monday.

"I have a spectacular squad," Zidane said. "When you see Isco who played really well in Barcelona taken out, other players too, it is a bit strong.

"When you change four players, and the dynamic of the team does not change the we are satisfied.

"We played a great game again today. We started very well, with lots of intensity from the start, playing in their half, winning the ball back there. It was the game we hoped for.

"We are happy with the two games, and we must congratulate players, who were fantastic."
