Remember the name Thomas O'Connor.

The former Tullogher Rosberson and Kilkenny minor hurler made a very big impression during Southampton's 2-1 victory over Manchester United in FA Youth Cup in Old Trafford last night.

The Saints were trailing 1-0 with seven minutes remaining when O'Connor scored a fine equaliser before Will Smallbone completed the comeback win with a stunning goal.

“It’s the best game I’ve ever played in,” he told southamptonfc.com.

“It was an unreal performance from the boys. Even when we went 1-0 down we still felt like there was something in it for us.

“Everyone just gave it there all and we got back to 2-1 in the end. Obviously when you go one down everyone is kind of nervous.

“But everyone dug deep and everyone believed that we were good enough to get those two goals back.”

On his goal, he added:  “I can’t even remember it, to be honest.

“I found myself down the left channel – normally I don’t even go down the channel but I just found myself in space there.

“I cut in and it was just instinct to hit it with my right, which I don’t do very often, but luckily it went in.”
