Villa keen on Richardson deal
Aston Villa are closing in on Kieran Richardson in a move which would reunite the midfielder with former manager Roy Keane.
Press Association Sport understands Villa are close to striking a deal for the Fulham player, who has 12 months remaining on his contract at Craven Cottage and could be available for a modest fee following their relegation.
Should Villa manage to reach agreement, the 29-year-old would once again find himself working under Keane, who recently accepted manager Paul Lambert's offer to combine his role as assistant to Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill with a similar position at Villa Park.
Keane knows Richardson from their time together at Manchester United, and paid £5.5million to take him to Sunderland in July 2007 after taking over as manager at the Stadium of Light.
The former West Ham trainee, who left Wearside in a £2million switch to Fulham in August 2012, was a member of the Cottagers squad which slipped out of the Barclays Premier League at the end of last season.
