Former Cork City winger Roy O'Donovan scored a brilliant brace in the A-League last night but could not prevent the Central Coast Mariners slipping to a 4-2 defeat to Adelaide United.

The man Roy Keane brought to Sunderland from Leeside in 2007, scored his first when racing down the flank before cutting inside and beating the keeper at his near post.

Adeliade hit back with four goals before O'Donovan picked up a stunning second.

The Mariners are rooted to the bottom of the A-League with just 13 points from 25 games and are already relegated.

Their hopes weren't helped by O'Donovan's eight-game ban for a head-butt earlier in the season.
