Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane has called on Irish football fans to vote for Stephanie Roche ahead of Monday's deadline for the Ferenc Puskas Goal of the Year Award.

The LA Galaxy skipper, Ireland's record goalscorer, believes the 25-year-old from Shankill deserves the award for her amazing strike for Peamount United.

Olympic gold medallist Katie Taylor has lent her support to Stephanie Roche ahead of the FIFA gala awards next Monday claiming the football star was always the stand-out player on the Ireland team.

Taylor scored a number of goals during her career but admits that none were anywhere as impressive as Roche's wonder goal for Peamount United.

"Any goals I scored where all flukes," she admitted.

"I definitely didn’t score a goal like Stephanie's, she was always the most technical player on the team and always great to play with."
