New Norwich striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel is confident he can quickly stamp his mark on the Barclays Premier League next season.

The 24-year-old, who was part of the Holland squad for their end-of-season friendlies in Asia, will officially complete an £8.5million switch from Sporting Lisbon on July 1.

Van Wolfswinkel netted 15 goals last season, including a brace in his final appearance for Sporting, and the ex-Utrecht striker sees no reason why he cannot continue his progress at Carrow Road. "I have never really had that much trouble getting used to a new competition or new team so I hope I can do the same again," he said on the club's official website.

"It was great to go to Portugal for my development and I am sure that I improved a lot over there in the two years.

"During that time I of course played a few games against English clubs in the Europa League and scored against English teams, so I know what I have to do and I know what I can do in the Premier League.

"I really hope that I can play my game and stamp that on the Premier League. It is a perfect move for me."

Although Norwich scored four against West Brom and then three in the win at Manchester City on the final day to pull clear of the relegation zone and finish a creditable 11th, manager Chris Hughton hopes the arrival of Van Wolfswinkel will add a much-needed cutting edge to his side's attack - with just 41 goals in 38 league games last season.

Hughton is expected to further strengthen the squad over the summer, when a decision is also expected to be made on whether veteran club captain Grant Holt will see out the remainder of his contract or move on.

Sweden forward Ola Toivonen has been linked with a switch from PSV Eindhoven, as has England Under-21 winger Nathan Redmond from Hughton's former club Birmingham.

Blackburn defender Martin Olsson and Nigerian left-back Elderson are also reported to be on Norwich's watch list as they prepare for a pre-season tour to the west coast of the United States.
