Van Gaal ends United interest in Toni Kroos
Louis van Gaal tells Manchester United he does not want the club to pursue signing of Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos, a key target for David Moyes.
Manchester United have ended their interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos after Louis van Gaal said he did not want the player at Old Trafford.
It was reported this morning that United had agreed a deal for Kroos, but that information was false.
The player had been pursued as a key summer signing by Van Gaal's predecessor David Moyes, with the team considered weak in central midfield, but the incoming Dutchman manager has decided Kroos should not be a target having previously managed him at Bayern.
Bayern have long insisted that Kroos will not be allowed to leave amid a contract row - the player has only one year left on his current deal.
“There will certainly be further talks. But at some point the player has to say what he wants,” Bayern president Karl Hopfner said. “We will not exceed certain financial boundaries.”
