Underachiever gong hat-trick for Adriano

FORMER Brazil striker Adriano was 'honoured' earlier this week when he picked up the Bidone d'Oro, or Golden Bin, for the third time in his career.

A play on the Balon d'Or, the Bidone d'Oro recognises the biggest underachievers in Serie A and if ever that description applied to a footballer, it's poor Adriano.

Having made a huge impact with Inter Milan in the 2004-05 season, when he scored 40 goals, his career has been in freefall ever since.

Although he had something of a rejuvenation with Flamengo in Brazil, Adriano returned to Italy to sign for Roma, but has failed to establish himself in Claudio Ranieri's team.

Adriano is joined on this year's list by Juventus defender Amauri, while Ronaldinho finished third as his career graph points downward yet again.

The 2009 winner, Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo, can console himself with the news that he has plummeted eight places on this year's list. Now, that's progress in any man's language.
