RTE football pundit Eamon Dunphy believes the future of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni (right) depends on the team's performance against Germany on Friday.

Mr Dunphy told the Irish Indpendent that he is no longer convinced of the 72-year-old Italian's abilities. "I've gone from a believer to a sceptic. A lot depends on our performance in the World Cup qualifier against Germany. Injuries are a real problem. The team is not in good shape. It's going to be a tough week," he added.

Speaking in Dublin at the launch of a book on the history of Independent Newspapers, Mr Dunphy said some of the best players were not getting an opportunity. "Morale is low. Trapattoni is running out of time."
