Transfer gossip: Sadio Mane and Isco on their way to Manchester
Another round-up of transfer gossip as an Independent.ie story from Saturday morning makes the back pages of the newspapers 24 hours later.
MANE TO MAN UTD RUMOURS GATHER PACE
Sadio Mane’s future at Southampton is the subject of heated discussions in the pages of the Sunday newspapers this weekend – as Manchester United’s interest in the Senegal forward appears to be edging towards a formal bid.
United will struggle to get Mane out of Southampton in this month’s transfer window after the south coast club insisted they would not consider selling their star man this month for any price.
Yet Mane’s error in missing a team meeting ahead of Southampton’s game against Norwich on Saturday and Koeman’s decision to drop the player as a result has reignited rumours that he may be agitating for a move to Old Trafford.
Independent.ie sources have been informed that Southampton remain determined to hang on to Mane until the summer at least, with Koeman’s anger at his timekeeping error on Saturday morning not the prelude to his exit from the club.
Might that stance change if United put a massive offer on the table for the 23-year-old? One report hints that Mane’s value is soaring to around £60m. Now that would be a crazy deal.
ARSENAL WANT BORUSSIA DORTMUND STRIKER
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time and a price tag of £42m might not put off possible suitors in the Premier League.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is among those reported to be chasing the French forward who has scored a stunning 24 goals this season, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp also believed to be interested in the player he managed last season.
That huge valuation will not frighten off Premier League clubs preparing for their windfall of new TV money next summer, so don’t be surprised if Aubameyang brings his scoring boots to English football at some point in 2016.
RACE TO SIGN ISCO HEATS UP
Real Madrid star Isco looks set to be a big-name mover in this transfer window and Manchester City look set to have rivals in the race to sign the Spanish star.
Reports in Italy suggest Juventus are prepared to pay the £30m asking price for a player who is out of favour at the Bernabeu, with City also keen to match that offer if they can secure the services of the talented 23-year-old.
It remains to be seen whether he is cut out for the rough and tumble of the Premier League, but we reckon this is a deal that could go through this month if City want Isco badly enough.
TRANSFER STAMPEDE FOR BOJAN
Stoke attacking starlet Bojan Krkic may become the subject of intense transfer speculation in the next few weeks – after it was revealed he has a buy-out clause of his £10m in his contract.
Former Barcelona starlet Bojan has impressed in wins against Chelsea and Manchester United in recent weeks and it would be no surprise to see both of those big-hitters trying to sign him this month.
Bojan took time to settle in the Premier League, but the Daily Mirror story suggesting a player who has now proved himself in England could be up for grabs at a cut price fee will alert plenty of would-be suitors.
