Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Carroll is an £8 million target for Premier League strugglers Swansea.

Carroll is on the verge of leaving Spurs this month and seems certain to swap a title challenge for a relegation scrap.

New Swansea head coach Paul Clement is shaking up his squad and wants to sign Carroll, 24, who impressed on loan at the Liberty Stadium two seasons ago.

Carroll was once compared to former Spurs star Luka Modric but he has struggled for game time this season under Mauricio Pochettino, making only one league appearance.

Swansea, meanwhile, are close to signing Norwich defender Martin Olsson after agreeing a £5 million fee with the Championship club.

Olsson, the Sweden international, is expected to complete his move to Swansea by the end of the week. His arrival should hasten Neil Taylor's departure, with Crystal Palace understood to be keen.
