Real Madrid's Asier Illarramendi set for £15 million move to Liverpool
Asier Illarramendi is likely to join Liverpool in a £15 million deal this summer after stating that he wants to leave Real Madrid.
The deep-lying midfielder has struggled for game time since moving to the Spanish capital, according to Fichajes.net.
The Spanish giants will, apparently, allow him leave the club but want to recuperate a large portion of the fee they splashed out on him.
Liverpool will be able to match Madrid's valuation, reports The Metro, while other suitors, such as Real Sociedad, may struggle.
Southampton are holding out for an offer closer to £15 million for Nathaniel Clyne, as well as a clear decision from the player that he wants to leave, before agreeing any deal with Liverpool even after buying another right-back on Thursday.
This morning's Daily Telegraph reveals that a sale will only be sanctioned in the event of a bigger offer and a very clear decision from Clyne that he wants to leave. Manchester United are also interested and, while they have not yet made any bid, the situation could change quickly if they entered the bidding. Liverpool are now deciding whether to make a higher offer.
Martin Skrtel, meanwhile, has rejected interest from Inter Milan to pledge his future to Liverpool.
Skrtel had one year remaining on his existing contract and had been the subject of interest from rival clubs.
But the Slovakian international, 30, has apparently rejected the chance a possible move to Inter - whose manager, Roberto Mancini, is a long-term admirer of the player - and will instead sign an new deal when he returns from holiday.
And finally, Liverpool have finalised a deal to sign Joe Gomez from Charlton, with the defender to undergo a medical on Friday.
The Daily Mail claims the Reds have triggered a release clause in the Charlton Athletic defender's contract, which will enable them to sign him for an initial £3.5 million and is likely rise to £6 million on appearances.
Liverpool beat off serious late interest from Aston Villa and Bournemouth for the 18-year-old who spent much of the season at right-back but is tipped to mature into a top-class central defender. Gomez was also the subject of interest from Arsenal and Manchester City.
