Marouane Fellaini will be sold from Manchester United because Louis van Gaal doesn't rate him, according to reports.

The new United boss has told friends that Fellaini 'is not a United type of player', according to the Daily Mail, and asked transfer chief Ed Woodward to sell the Belgian midfielder before the season.

Fellaini has spent just a season at Old Trafford, where he was David Moyes' marquee signing last summer, arriving for £27m from Everton.

But the 26-year-old suffered a difficult season at Old Trafford, playing just 21 matches without scoring.

Fellaini did not start Belgium's opening game against Algeria, but came off the bench to score the equaliser and spark a come from behind victory. Since then Marc Wilmots has started Fellaini in the three subsequent wins.

Belgium play Argentina on Saturday with the tall midfielder now firmly in the shop window.

Manchester United will take a two-week pre-season tour of the US on 21 July, but Fellaini may not make that because of Belgium's continued presence in Brazil.
