Manchester United open talks with Atletico Madrid youngster Saul Niguez
Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, according to The Mirror.
The 21-year-old plays in central midfield and has had a hugely impresive season at the Vicente Calderon, and despite his young age has been a regular for three years now.
Diego Simeone is desperate to hold on to one of the club's brightest starts, but if United trigger the £18million release clause in his contract, he and the club will be unable to turn United down.
Arsenal are reportedly also interested in the youngster.
Elsewhere, Lazio have confirmed that Manchester United made a £37.5m bid for Brazil attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson, AKA 'The Mouse from Rome' (even though he's from Santa Maria) last summer which was turned down and may be bracing themselves for another improved offer.
The 23-year-old wide man was dropped to the bench for Lazio's match against Fiorentina last Saturday but this seems more to be due to a loss of form than hesitancy over injuries before a sale and has been in poor form but came on as a late substitute and scored the third in a 3-1 win.
We turned down a €50m offer from Manchester United on August 27 and nothing has changed since then," said Lazio sporting director Igli Tare. "Because if he finds consistency, then he’s worth much more. We also resisted bigger offers than that, but we have targets to achieve."
United's hopes of taking Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford have been dashed, according to The Express, by Paris Saint-Germain's willingness to pay him £500,000 a week to move to Parc des Princes.
