Manchester United are prepared to make an £86m move for Gareth Bale this summer, according to reports.

With Angel Di Maria on the verge of leaving for PSG for €63m after both clubs agreed on the fee, Louis van Gaal is aware of the need to strengthen his attacking options, whilst it's reported by The Express that new shirt sponsors Adidas are "pushing" for Bale to be the player that improves things.

Bale is among the sportswear brand's 'A-listers' and him in a United shirt - that Adidas recently paid £750m to become the makers of - is seen as a winning combination.

Barcelona winger Pedro is thought likely to arrive at Old Trafford once Di Maria's departure is confirmed, but it's suggested Bale could be signed in addition to the Spain international.

Manchester United tried to sign Bale when he left Tottenham but lost out to Real Madrid. Their interest in the Wales international continues and speculation has been fuelled by rumours that there could be a willingness at Real Madrid to sell if they can recoup the world record fee they paid for him.

Real Madrid's interest in David De Gea would enhance United's negotiating position.

Having sold Robin van Persie and opted not to sign Radamel Falcao on a permanent basis, Van Gaal is well aware the club is short on experienced options in attack.
