Liverpool reject Mario Balotelli is on the verge of a loan move to Ligue 1
Mario Balotelli appears to be edging closer to a move to French side Nice, yet his agent has suggested that a deal has yet to be finalised for the maverick Liverpool striker.
Balotelli has been urged to make a move from Liverpool after manager Jurgen Klopp made it clear he would not have a role to play in his future plans, with Italian side Palermo also keen to recruit the controversial hit-man.
Yet Nice appear to be close to sealing a deal for the 26-year-old, even though Balotelli initially appeared to suggest Nice were not a big enough club for him to join.
The stumbling block over the deal appears to be over wages, with Liverpool eager to avoid paying any of Balotelli’s 90,000-per-week salary as he looks to kick-start his career in Ligue 1.
With that figure well out of Nice’s reach, Balotelli will need to take a pay cut to finalise a move ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline on Wednesday, with his high profile agent Mino Raiola confirming talks are still ongoing.
“There’s no agreement between the clubs and no medical today,” Raiola insisted in comments to the media on Wednesday.
However, French reports suggest a deal may be close to Balotelli to make the move to France, with the Italian believed to have met with Nice President Jean-Pierre Rivere as he looks to make a move that could kick-start his faltering career.
Balotelli has started just ten Premier League games for Liverpool since he made a surprise move to Anfield in the summer of 2014, with his career likely to be stuck in if he opts to stay on Merseyside and collect his full wages for the coming season.
