Liverpool eye €26m Barcelona star while Balotelli could be set for Premier League return
Despite handing goalkeeper Simon Mignolet a five-year contract, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is still considering a move for Barcelona shot-stopper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
The 23-year-old German international signed for the Catalans last summer in a €12m move from Borussia Mönchengladbach, but has been forced to share goalkeeping duties with Claudio Bravo, who plays in Barcelona’s La Liga matches.
The Mirror reports that Klopp is willing to offer the second-string Barcelona keeper a way out of the Nou Camp.
According to the story Liverpool had a £10m bid for the keeper rejected with Barcelona keen to hold out for closer to £20m (€26m).
Ter Stegen has an €80m buy-out clause inserted in his contract, which doesn't run out until June 2019, but Barcelona manager Luis Enrique may be prepared to listen to offer for Ter Stegen.
Mignolet has come in for heavy criticism again this season following a string of below-par performances, with a large section of fans perplexed by the club's decision to hand the Belgian a lucrative new deal.
Meanwhile Liverpool flop Mario Balotelli could be set to return to the Premier League this January.
The Italian endured a torrid first season at Anfield following a £16m move from AC Milan, scoring just twice under former Reds manager, Brendan Rodgers.
Despite the Italian's chequered past, West Ham and West Brom are fighting it out to land the 25-year-old.
