Joao Moutinho free to join Arsenal
Who wants to buy a midfielder from Monaco? Arsenal! That's who!
The Metro has them in reasonably hot pursuit of Joao Moutinho, who is also supposedly of interest to Manchester United and Chelsea.
Monaco, France's answer to QPR (tiny stadium, loads of money, a distinct lack of success despite spending a great deal of their loads of money) have decided it's time to stop throwing cash around. That is so 2011.
Instead, they want to get some high earners off the books. 28-year-old Moutinho has been told he can leave, on account of his £110,000 per week wages.
Previous club Porto and Zenit Saint Petersburg are also interested in Moutinho. But he's keen on a move to England, despite all that nasty tax they make you pay on what you earn.
Some less positive news from France, where Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette has stressed his desire to stay with his current club.
Arsenal's interest in the 24-year-old is well documented but those hopes of making beautiful footballing music happen with Cazetteboy look doomed.
After scoring in a pre-season friendly in which Lyon beat AC Milan 2-1, Lacazette said:
"I want to show those who think that I have my head elsewhere that I'm still here. I have already said that I want to continue with Lyon.
"I have shown that I'm fully committed. It's football that interests me, not money.
"I hope to have a strong season."
Lyon apparently want £40m for Lacazette. We'd imagine they are a bit more interested in money than their striker claims to be.
The goalkeeping merry-go-round continues apace.
David De Gea might be leaving Manchester United, who might sign Japsper Cillessen from Ajax to replace him.
As a result, Ajax want Wojciech Szczesny, according to The Mail.
With David Ospina marginally better than him, and Petr Cech the clear number one, is this the correct time to let smokin' Wojciech experience a more challenging form of smoking in Amsterdam?
In other news, Roma are totally okay with selling Alessio Romagnoli to Arsenal. They'd rather ship the defender to England than have him turn out for one of their rivals.
Some sadness to report about the man above, too.
The Mirror report that Borussia Dortmund have told Arsenal to forget about signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
He's priced at about £30m, Arsenal want him, but they can't have him. It'll be character building, probably.
