Harry Maguire left out of Leicester side for pre-season Atlanta game amid speculation that Man United deal near
Harry Maguire has been left out of the Leicester City squad that will play Atlanta on Friday, amid intense speculation that he could be about to make a move to Manchester United.
Maguire missed training with Leicester on Monday, sparking fuelling rumours that the England centre-back was about to complete his much-discussed move to Old Trafford, but he has been back with Brendan Rodgers squad over the last three days despite continued links with United.
Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that United were finally ready to pay Leicester's £80m asking price for Maguire, after their offer of £70m was rejected earlier this month and even though the player has been allocated the No.15 jersey by Leicester this season, it seems increasingly likely he will not remain at the club.
Maguire is reported to have held talks with Rodgers after training on Thursday and the decision was made for him not to play in the pre-season game at Leicester's King Power Stadium on Friday night.
Burnley's James Tarkowski and Brighton's Lewis Dunk have been mentioned as possible replacements for Maguire at Leicester, with United seemingly ready to break the transfer record for a defender if they pay more than the £75m Liverpool paid to sign Virgin van Dijk from Southampton in January 2018 in their pursuit of a long-time target.
