Chelsea will make their third bid for Everton central defender John Stones within 48 hours. But they could face more frustration, as the expected £30 million offer is unlikely to be accepted.

The Blues will hope that the latest bid will at least open a dialogue aimed at concluding a deal, but the Stamford Bridge club will have to structure a deal worth at least £34m to land Stones.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is desperate to finalise his squad as quickly as possible after watching all of his rivals strengthen significantly over the summer.

Having had offers of £20m and £26m turned down this summer, Chelsea will go back to Everton with a £30m bid for Stones, which is expected to be made by the end of Tuesday.

Chelsea are closing in on an agreement with Augsburg for left-back Baba Rahman.

The Bundesliga club had been demanding £20m, but the Blues hope to deal a deal worth around £17m.
