The protracted Alex Teixeira transfer to Chelsea saga continues apace, but the Daily Star is reporting that a deal is now close to completion.

The paper claims that Chelsea have offered a big contract to the Brazilian in an attempt to lure him to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old has scored an astonishing 26 goals from 26 games this season, while playing in an attacking midfield position.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph reports that Chelsea are confident of tying Ruben Loftus-Cheek down to long-term contract.

Elsewhere, the Chile manager Jorge Sampaoli, one of Roman Abramovich's targets for the role of long-term successor to Jose Mourinho, has told the Chelsea owner, according to Metro who have taken the quotes from Don Balon, that he will only consider taking the job if the Blues but his compatriot Alexis Sánchez from Arsenal.

Arsenal are as unlikely to sell Sánchez as Barcelona are to let Lionel Messi go and certainly not to Chelsea though Metro mentions a figure of about £50m as his worth to the Gunners. If buying him guarantees attarcting Sampaoli, there is bound to be a huge premium on top of that but who says Sánchez could be persuaded to go.

Chelsea have made a check on AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca as the club weigh up their options at home and abroad ahead of deciding whether or not to sign a new striker this month.

Technical director Michael Emenalo is holding talks and meetings over potential January targets and Bacca is on a list of strikers Chelsea are interested in, along with Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and Atletico Madrid’s Jackson Martinez.
