Chelsea make sensational bid to bring David Luiz back to London
This has been a summer when the Premier League’s top clubs have been tempted to spend vast sums of cast to re-signed their former players - but no-one would have predicted Chelsea making a move to bring David Luiz back to Stamford Bridge.
Yet not only have Chelsea lodged a £32m with Paris Saint-Germain to try and sign the frizzy-haired defender, but Luiz is reported to be keen to finalise the move ahead of the transfer deadline on Wednesday.
Chelsea sold the accident-prone Brazilian for a colossal £50m in the summer of 2014, with most observers stunned by the price tag attached to a centre-back whose personality is more notable than his talents on the field.
His calamitous display for Brazil in their 7-1 defeat against Germany in the 2014 World Cup semi-final appeared to cement his reputation as a player whose price tag had been grossly over-inflated and yet one of the more shocking rumours of this crazy transfer window has thrown up claims that Luiz could be on his way back to Chelsea.
The Stamford Bridge club have been linked with a host of defenders in the last couple of months, with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly persistently linked with the Blues over the last few months.
However, Napoli are refusing to sell Koulibaly for less than £60m and that price tag has forced Chelsea to consider alternative options, with Luiz a shock candidate to bolster the Blues defence.

Manchester United may have paid a world record £89m to bring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford for a second spell and Chelsea failed in their bid to re-sign Everton striker Romelu Lukaku in recent weeks, but Luiz’s Chelsea comeback would arguably be the most remarkable comeback of this crazy transfer window.
