Arsenal join Liverpool in race for Bilbao's Inaki Williams
The Gunners look set to join Liverpool in the race to sign Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams.
Williams is officially the fastest player in La Liga, having been recorded running at an incredible 22.2 miles per hour, and is regarded as one of the most promising forwards in European football.
Jurgen Klopp is said to have sent scouts to watch Williams and Arsene Wenger’s hand may be forced if Klopp elects to make a bid for the striker this January.
Williams currently has a £15.3 million release clause in his contract, although the Daily Star have reported that the Basque club are actively attempting to hoist this up to £76.3 million, so Wenger and Klopp might want to make their moves sooner rather than later.
The 21-year-old winger-cum-forward has scored 10 times in 21 appearances in all competitions this season.
The Mail adds that Arsenal sent scouts to run the rule over the 6ft 1in star in midweek when he scored the only goal in Bilbao's 1-0 win over Valencia in the Copa del Rey.
Meanwhile, Arsenal hope to take advantage of Real Madrid's transfer ban by swooping for Juventus striker Alvaro Morata.
The Spanish giants have a buy-back clause in Morata’s contract at Juve and they had been considering activating this option at the end of the season.
Now, however, with Real unable to buy players after this current window, Arsenal will make their move for the 23-year-old attacker.
Arsene Wenger still wants to add to his strikeforce either this month or at the end of the season despite the impressive form of Olivier Giroud in recent weeks.
Morata scored 15 goals last season but has not always been a first-team regular for the Italians this campaign.
