CIARAN CLARK has become the latest player to pledge his future to Aston Villa, signing a new three-year deal which will keep him at the club until 2016.

The 23-year-old defender, an academy product at Villa Park, has made 75 first-team appearances in all competitions for the club since making his senior debut in 2009, scoring six goals.

He joins goalkeeper Brad Guzan, midfielder Ashley Westwood and fellow academy graduates Andreas Weimann and Nathan Baker in putting pen to paper on a new deal this summer.

The Ireland international (right) said: "From a personal point of view, I really couldn't be more delighted or more proud.

"I've been here since I was 12 years old, progressing from the younger teams through the youth team along with players such as Marc Albrighton, Barry Bannan and another couple who have just signed new deals in Nathan Baker and Andreas Weimann.

"It's great that we've all managed to come through together and there's a bond there that's as close as family for us."

Manager Paul Lambert has been busy in the transfer market so far this summer, recruiting defenders Jores Okore and Antonio Luna, midfielders Leandro Bacuna and Aleksander Tonev, striker Nicklas Helenius and goalkeeper Jed Steer.

Pellegrini called home as City swoop for Jovetic

MANCHESTER CITY manager Manuel Pellegrini left the club's pre-season training camp in South Africa yesterday to return home to Chile to deal with a personal matter.

The 59-year-old flew out of Durban early yesterday morning, leaving assistant manager Brian Kidd to look after the team for the friendly against AmaZulu.

Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo underwent a medical in Manchester last night ahead of his £20.6m move and he will soon be joined by Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic (right) after the clubs agreed a deal which will see City fork out an initial £22.4m, expected to rise to £28m, for the Montenegro international.

Jovetic, who is as comfortable playing as a lone striker as he is in front of the midfield, scored 13 goals last season, having hit 14 in the previous campaign. He missed the entire 2010-11 season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in pre-season training.

Meanwhile, Brazilian defender Maicon, who made 13 appearances for City after joining from Inter Milan last summer, has completed his move to Roma.

Done deals

Rory Delap has signed with Burton Albion after his release from Stoke. The 37-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the League Two outfit. St Patrick's Athletic have added former Irish U-21 international goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin to their squad.

Crystal Palace chairman are targeting attacking reinforcements after completing the signing of Sevilla midfielder Jose Campana. The 20-year-old Spaniard is Ian Holloway's fourth summer signing.
