Chelsea have not given up hope of signing Fernando Torres in this transfer window with the striker understood to be keen for Liverpool to listen to the Premier League champions offer.
A £35m bid for Torres was rejected yesterday with Liverpool insisting that their prize asset – who has been coveted by Roman Abramovich for some time – is not for sale.
If Torres is going to push for the move it may encourage Chelsea to raise their bid to closer to Liverpool’s valuation.
The Spanish international is understood to be more settled at Liverpool since Kenny Dalglish was appointed manager until the end of the season but had become disillusioned last season and at the start of this campaign.
Chelsea bid for Torres last summer but the striker was persuaded to stay with Liverpool promising fresh investment to strengthen the team.
The latest offer from Chelsea will hurry Liverpool along in their efforts to sign Luis Suarez from Ajax to provide evidence to Torres that they are listening to his concerns.
