Thierry Henry has confirmed that it was Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger who ended his hopes of launching a coaching career with the Gunners.

Henry was working with Arsenal's young stars and had been offered a role working with the under-18s under their coach Andries Jonker after spending some time coaching at the club.

Yet Wenger is reported to be told Wenger that he needed to give up his highly lucrative role as a Sky Sports pundit if he wanted to remain as part of the coaching set-up at Arsenal.

Now Henry has confirmed that it was Wenger who brought down the curtain on his coaching career with the Gunners in a series of tweets:

The decision from Wenger will cement the suspicion that he was less than pleased with some of Henry's comments on Sky Sports last season, with some suggesting he didn't give the Arsenal boss enough support as his latest title challenge collapsed.

It will be interesting to see how Henry reacts in his role as a TV pundit if the tide starts to turn against Wenger and Arsenal once again next season.
