The road to nowhere

What games had Ireland agreed?

September 2010: Andorra (H).

October 2010: Russia (H).

November 2010: Slovakia (H, friendly date).

March 2011: Russia (A) and Armenia (A).

June 2011: Macedonia (H).

September 2011: Macedonia (A) and Slovakia (A).

October 2011: Andorra (A).

What was the problem?

Armenia (H).

What was the problem?

Overall, the Armenians were a stumbling block. While Ireland had nine of their matches lined up when discussions finally broke down, the emerging nation had only agreed the timing of two of their 10 games.

What happens now?

UEFA decide the Group B schedule at their congress in Tel Aviv next week.

Will any of the fixtures stand?

No. UEFA start from scratch, and will organise games rigidly on assigned dates in the calendar. While Ireland and Slovakia had agreed to play on an assigned friendly date in November, they will be bound by set dates now.

What are the set dates?

Games 1 and 2: Friday, September 3 and Tuesday, September 7.

Games 3 and 4: Friday, October 8 and Tuesday, October 12.

Game 5: Saturday, March 26.

Game 6: Saturday, June 4.

Games 7 and 8: Friday, September 2 and Tuesday, September 6.

Games 9 and 10: Friday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 11.
