Teenage Tipperary GAA star snubs Manchester United to join Celtic
Teenage Irish star Barry Coffey has joined Celtic despite numerous Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, being interested in his services.
The 16-year-old has signed from Nenagh AFC on a three-year deal.
He featured for Chelsea in a youth tournament in Rotterdam and has been offered trails at both Manchester City and their bitter rivals at Old Trafford, Coffey has decided to throw his lot in with Brendan Rodgers' treble-winning Scottish champions.
Coffey, a keen hurler with Nenagh Éire Óg, helped Ireland triumph in the Victory Shield at the Oriam Training Centre in Edinburgh earlier this year.
Best of luck to Barry Coffey in the next phase of his sporting career after signing a professional contract with Glasgow Celtic F.C. today. pic.twitter.com/2ecHzis0SZ— Nenagh Éire Óg (@nenagheireog) June 13, 2017
