Supporting the League of Ireland will a key focus for us, vows Roy Keane
ROY KEANE has promised that the League of Ireland will be a key focus of the new Ireland management team.
The assistant manager said that his year playing with Cobh in the league had been fantastic for his career.
“People have been too quick to knock the League of Ireland but that year with Cobh was a stepping stone for me to get to England,” he told Newstalk’s Off the Ball show.
“We shouldn’t kid ourselves that Martin and myself coming on board will just be about working on the senior team. We are fully committed to supporting Irish football in general.”
He also vowed that Irish players would be treated well by the FAI, something he found frustrating during his international career.
“That is part of my role and that was one of the attractions for me getting involved. Hopefully, I can make sure from my own experience, good and bad, that the players who are coming over playing for Ireland that we’re doing our best for them.”
