Stephanie Roche ‘delighted’ that boyfriend Dean will be joining her in Houston
Irish international will embark on the most exciting journey of her career when she joins up with her new club, Houston Dynamo, in March and she won’t be travelling alone.
Independent.ie exclusively revealed last night that the Puskás Award runner-up would be making the move across the Atlantic.
Speaking on Morning Ireland on RTE Radio One this morning, Stephanie announced that he boyfriend Dean Zambra, who plays for Bray Wanderers, would be accompanying her on her trip west.
After failing to adapt to life in France, given the language barrier, Roche (25) is hoping that Dean’s presence in Houston will help her acclimatise to life in the states quicker.
“I’m delighted he’s going to come along with me and hopefully he’s just going to come on a holiday visa for the first three months and we come back in June(mid-season break), we get back for a week or so,” she said
“He’s going to try and look for a club over there and I’m delighted to have him there with me, it’ll make things a lot easier and I’ll be able to settle in a lot easier.”
Roche said that she had a number of offers to stay in Europe but it’s always been her ambition to play in the US.
“I was offered a couple of clubs in England and a few in Europe but I’ve always said that I wanted to go to America,” she added
“I’m really looking forward to getting there, I’ve been given a huge opportunity by Houston Dash and I’m hoping I’ll be able to go over and do well.”
Roche has already been receiving messages of support from some high profile individuals across the pond.
“I’ve had messages from people who you would never even think of,” she continued.
“I had a Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker, Pat Murray, who got in touch with me and I just didn’t know what to be saying to him.
“The New York Cosmos assistant coach got in touch with me as well. It’s been brilliant and everyone has been so welcoming.
“Everyone has taken a shone to the story over the Puskás Award.”
