Doherty set to sign for McCarthy's Tractor Boys
Waterford United's Jack Doherty is set for a move to Ipswich Town after impressing manager Mick McCarthy during a trial at their pre-season training camp in Carton House
Officials at Waterford United were contacted earlier this week confirming the Championship side's interest in securing the services of the 19-year-old, who was born in Clonmel, Tipperary.
Doherty was watched by Portman Road representatives during his last outing for Waterford against Longford Town, in which he scored from the penalty spot during a 2-1 defeat.
A left-winger, similar in size and stature to Damien Duff, Doherty previously had a trial with Ipswich Town when he was 14, before further trials ensued at Manchester City and Charlton Athletic. He first caught the eye of scouts when playing for the Irish schoolboys in a four-team tournament that included England, Scotland and Wales.
Doherty made 13 appearances for Waterford United in the 2012/13 season, scoring twice. Contract negotiations with the Suffolk-based side are currently underway.
Sunderland have landed midfielder El-Hadji Ba from French club Le Havre.
The 20-year-old Frenchman has signed a three-year deal and has already joined up with his new team-mates and manager Paolo Di Canio at Sunderland's training camp in Italy.
He follows Valentin Roberge, Modibo Diakite, Cabral, Jozy Altidore, David Moberg Karlsson and Duncan Watmore into the Premier League club.
Former England No 1 Richard Wright has signed a new one-year contract with Manchester City, the club have announced.
Wright (35) joined City as a free agent last summer and served as back-up to Joe Hart and Costel Pantilimon without making a first-team appearance.
Wright, who has two England caps, began his career as a highly rated teenager with Ipswich in 1995 and also counts Arsenal, Everton and West Ham among his former clubs.
Sweden defender Martin Olsson is joining Norwich City on a four-year deal from Championship side Blackburn Rovers.
Norwich announced on their website that left-back Olsson was set to sign for an undisclosed fee, subject to paperwork being completed.
Crystal Palace have signed former West Brom winger Jerome Thomas on a two-year contract, the newly promoted Premier League club announced.
