Sneijder tips Balotelli to be one of world's best strikers
Wes Sneijder has tipped Mario Balotelli to become one of the world's top strikers once he loses the craziness from his system, writes Daniel McDonnell.
The Inter Milan star knows Balotelli well from their time together in Italy and is convinced that the 20-year-old can go on to achieve great things. Yet he also warned that the Manchester City striker needs to mature before he fully delivers on his potential.
"He has a personality," said Sneijder. "Sometimes he can do crazy things on the pitch.
"Outside the the pitch, he can do some crazy things as well, stupid things. I have talked to him many times about this in the last year. But he's still young. It can happen.
"He is a player with a lot of qualities and he can be one of the best strikers in the world if he starts thinking in the right way."
From his own experience during a period of massive spending at Real Madrid, Sneijder suggests that the revolution at City also needs time before it can become successful, saying: "They have good players, but you can't buy a good team. It will take time, you have to find the right players and the right coach."
The Dutch playmaker will face City this summer in the Dublin Super Cup, which also features Celtic and an Airtricity League XI.
Sneijder was in Dublin two years ago with the Madrid squad that took on Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght. "I don't know if we won," he said. "Cristiano (Ronaldo) took away all the attention. This summer, I wonder who will take the attention."
Sneijder will be appearing at the Dublin Super Cup in the Aviva Stadium on July 30/31. Tickets are on sale at www.dublinsupercup.com or at Ticketmaster 0818 719 391
